This discussion with David North, chairman of the World Socialist Web Site International Editorial Board, will focus on his two most recent books, Sounding the Alarm: Socialism Against War and The Logic of Zionism: From Nationalist Myth to the Gaza Genocide.
Drawing on the historical legacy of Leon Trotsky and the Fourth International to reclaim the revolutionary traditions of May Day, Sounding the Alarm compiles the May Day speeches North delivered between 2014 and 2024. These speeches provide a Marxist analysis of the deepening crisis of world capitalism and the growing danger of imperialist war.
The Logic of Zionism: From Nationalist Myth to the Gaza Genocide traces the intellectual and political development of Zionism, from its origins in the 19th century to its present-day manifestation in the horrific genocide of the Palestinian people.
Amid widespread and growing opposition to war, genocide, inequality and dictatorship, both in the US and globally, the issues dealt with in North’s latest works are critical to the development of a revolutionary socialist leadership capable of leading the coming struggles of the working class against dictatorship and war.
David North is the national chairman of the Socialist Equality Party and chairman of the World Socialist Web Site International Editorial Board. He has been active in socialist politics for over 50 years.
Christoph Vandreier is the national secretary of the Socialist Equality Party (SGP) in Germany. He has been active in the Trotskyist movement for nearly 30 years and is the author of the book Why Are They Back?, a study on the return of fascism in Germany.
David Walsh has been the Arts Editor of the World Socialist Web Site since its launch in January 1998. He has been a full-time socialist journalist since 1991, writing extensively about culture and politics, and is the author of The Sky Between the Leaves.
