Although the United Steelworkers (USW) union has agreed to a sellout contract that does nothing to address workers’ demands for improved safety, job security and living standards, thousands of oil workers remain on strike at refineries and chemical plants in Texas, California, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Washington State.
Immediately after the USW announced its deal with Shell, the remaining oil companies in the national bargaining agreement demanded even greater concessions, knowing the USW would isolate any section of workers who resisted. In this video taken before the deal was reached, the World Socialist Web Site spoke to striking workers at the Tesoro Carson refinery near Los Angeles, California and the BP-Husky refinery near Toledo, Ohio about the issues in their struggle.
