The International Students for Social Equality (IYSSE) is participating with the Socialist Equality Party (SEP) to defeat anti-democratic electoral laws rushed through the Australian parliament on August 26.

The legislation threatens the SEP and 35 other political parties with deregistration, meaning they cannot run under their party name in elections, unless they submit a list of 1,500 members by December 2, treble the previous number.

In this video, members of the IYSSE, the youth and student wing of the SEP, place the laws within the context of the social conditions facing young people. They explain that a central aim of the legislation is to suppress the widespread social and political opposition of the youth, and to prevent it finding any political expression.
